Home / Answered Questions / About a year ago I had sexual intercourse with a “risky” girl. She had already had 4 other sexual encounters at the age of 16. We had protected vaginal sex, unprotected oral (I was the recipient). What are the chances of me having HIV? I also fingered her.Should I get checked? After this encounter, I developed flu like symptons and diareah. No rash, no swollen lymph nodes, no night sweats. Also my anxiety level are very high? Is there a risk i contracted HIV?

Hi

We don’t see HIV passing with the type of sex you have described.

When receiving oral sex it is possible that some STI can be passed to you, but we don’t see HIV being passed this way.

Have a look at our “Know your chances” web page, it provides information on your chances of getting or passing an STI depending on how you are having sex.

It is also common that many STI do not show symptoms, given this we recommend that people go for STI testing.

There are no symptoms that are caused by just having HIV. Flu like symptoms is a common symptom that can be caused by many different conditions. The only way to find out if someone has HIV is to do a HIV test.

I would recommend going for a STI/HIV test. As it has been almost 1 year you are past the testing window period and will get a very accurate result.

Have a look at our clinic finder if you need help finding a clinic.
