Wearing latex gloves while dealing with a person who is bleeding is a very effective way to protect yourself from HIV.

If someone does bleed on you it is smart to wash it off as soon as you can. Although we do not see HIV being passed when infected blood comes into contact with intact skin washing off the blood is still recommended.
