Generally there is more HIV in the blood than the semen but in some cases the semen will have a higher level of HIV.

Also the levels of HIV in the blood and semen generally move together for example a high level of HIV in the blood generally means a high level of HIV in the semen and a low level of HIV in the blood generally means a low level of HIV in the semen.

People who take medication to treat HIV often achieve undetectable levels of HIV in the blood. This usually means that there are also undetectable levels of HIV in the semen. In some case it is possible to have undetectable levels of HIV in the blood but to have detectable levels of HIV in the semen; this could happen if someone had a sexually transmitted infection in the penis.
