Home / Answered Questions / A few years back I had to have a biopsy for prostate cancer. Thankfully it tested benign. My question is about prostate health. I have heard that milking the prostate may help keep the prostate healthy. Is this true or just a myth? I purchased a prostate massager and have followed the instructions on it’s use, but I fail to secrete any fluids from my penis. I guess it is difficult for you to give an exact answer but is there something wrong that I cannot produce anything by “milking” my prostate or is my method incorrect.? Thank you.

The prostate produces fluid that becomes part of ejaculate or semen. The prostate is not a reservoir of fluid but rather produces it at the time of desire and ejaculation. Prostate massagers are most commonly used for pleasure use. I can find no studies that support prostate massage by itself as a way to keep the prostate healthy. However there has recently been a study that correlated 21 or more ejaculations per month with a reduction in the risk of prostate problems.
