Home / Answered Questions / Hello , I am a Male in my mid forty’s. And as part of a remarkable bad decision I have recently received unprotected oral sex from an escort. It lasted a total of 5 seconds. As I was so worried about it I asked her to stop and put a condom on me. She stopped right away. And put a condom on me. I was so worried at this point I asked her to just finish me with a hand job. I know the hand job is no risk at all for hiv. My real concern is the 5 second oral sex I received and weather or not I contracted HIV this way. I do not know the womans HIV status. I am totally stressed out and having anxiety attacks about weather or not I have contracted HIV from this exposure. What are my risks from this exposure ? And do I require testing for HIV from this encounter ? Also , I here terms like low risk , and negligable risk used. Which would if either is this encounter and I’m a bit confused because some we bsites say that HIV this way is considered very low risk and never record yet. Others say it’s a neglagible risk. Is negligable more then low ? I’m almost to anxious to even get tested as I’m too scared it would come back positive. Thank you for your help !

Hi,thanks for writing in with your concerns. The situation you describe is not the way we see HIV being transmitted  The person at risk in this encounter is the escort whose throat is exposed. HIV is not transmitted in saliva. Low risk and negligable risk can be read as the same thing. Using a condom can give both of you reassurance that there is no fluid contact between you and the escort and prevent any STI transmission. It is recommended that anyone who is sexually active consider having HIV and STI testing done so they know their own current status, can detect any STI’s early and receive treatment for themselves and their partners if needed.  To find a clinic near you, please see https://smartsexresource.com/get-tested/clinic-finder  Let us know if this does not answer your question or if you have any more questions or concerns.
