Home / Answered Questions / Hello Smartsexresource.com team! I had an encounter with a male. He came into my room and started touching and some kissing, pretty much like a French Kissing without touching each others tongues. We had some naked foreplay. He performed some oral sex on me for about 20 seconds , I stared at whim while he was doing it. I didn’t notice any blood, not even during kissing. He came on my chest. When he left I went back to the bathroom and I noticed some blood stains in the towel he used, I got really scared and I couldn’t sleep the whole night. Looking at my whole body, including my genitals, there was no trace of blood on my body or the towel I used. The thing that is worrying me is that the source of the blood on the towel is unknown. He told me he is HIV negative . I’ve read that the risks of HIV from oral sex is extremely low. I understand there are no documented cases of HIV when getting oral sex. I just can’t stop thinking about it the “what ifs”. What are my risks. I need some peace

Hi there

It sounds like you have a pretty good understanding of how HIV can be passed. As you note, the chances of getting HIV from receiving oral sex are very low and there are no documented cases of HIV from having sex in this way. As for the blood, it is really hard to know if that is even a risk for you since you are not sure where it came from. Although the chances of HIV seem low, you may want to get tested to help with your worries about this contact.

You can also test for Chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis at the same time. These STIs can easily be passed through oral sex.  Often people don’t notice any symptoms and may not know they have them. They are treated and cured with antibiotics.

Check out our clinic finder if you need help finding an STI clinic in BC.
