Hi, thanks for your questions. The azithromycin that you were given is the standard treatment for chlamydia wherever it is in the throat, penis or rectum. When you take the azithromycin, it treats the chlamydia in all parts of your body. So for instance if chlamydia was present in your throat but was not detected on the throat swab, the azithromycin you have taken would have treated this too. The treatment is considered effective when you and your partner were both treated and abstained from sex for one week so you would both considered to be treated and clear to have sex then. There is no risk that you would reinfect each other at the 2 week mark as you are both treated. Hope this helps. Health Nurse
