One year ago i hit my head against another persons head during a soccer match. I got a cut in my head and went to the hospital to got some stitches. I also got a tetanus vaccine and i did not think more about it until now. I do not think the persons head was bleeding, but i am not sure. If it was bleeding, did i then put myself into risk of getting hiv and hepatitis?

Hi

I have not heard of HIV or hepatitis passing this way.

In theory it could be possible since HIV and hepatitis C are in the blood, but it would not be a good way for these to get into the body e.g. when you where cut it would be bleeding out making it difficult for any virus to get in.

If it is something that is causing you to worry it might be an idea to go for a test. As it has been 1 year the test result would be very accurate.

You stated that you are having anxiety with HIV and hepatitis. If it is just over this one situation I would suggest getting a test and putting the event behind you. But if you find you are worrying over other ways that HIV or hepatitis couldn’t pass to you, for example I touched a door handle that could have blood on it.

If you find you are getting anxious with HIV and hepatitis over situations that have not been shown to pass the viruses I would recommend seeing a counselor or talking to your doctor about your anxiety. It is common to see people who suffer from anxiety to get worried over HIV. I find searching for information on the internet can make people more anxious and the trick to feel better is not usually with doing a HIV test but finding a way to deal with your feelings of anxiety.
