Hi
It’s interesting that you bring this up as it is something we have been reviewing over the past few days.
The 4th generation HIV test is an antigen/antibody test that is used when you are getting your blood taken for a HIV test in BC. There is a large amount of evidence from studies that suggest that this test would pick up a HIV infection by the 6-week mark (some people have also used 45 or 50 days as well).
The only concern our lab has currently is that they would like to see more studies before they start using that number as the final window period.
Given this I would say that a HIV test at 10 weeks most likely means that you do not have HIV but that a final test at 90 days is recommend for complete closure.
Waiting for the HIV window period to be over can be a stressful event. I don’t know what type of interactions you have had at the youth clinic but I have seen many worried clients frequently testing. I find much of the time this just brings short term relief.
I would recommend that you have a look at our worry page. It has some information on what to do in these situations. Also feel free to send us a private message with an email and request that a nurse contact you directly. This can be helpful so that you can work with the one person.
Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.
