Hi, thanks for your questions. The azithromycin that you were given is one of the effective treatments for chlamydia when it is in the throat, penis or rectum. When you take the azithromycin, it treats the chlamydia in all parts of your body. So for instance if chlamydia was present in your throat but was not detected on the throat swab, the azithromycin you have taken would have treated this too. This means there is not a concern about self infecting other parts of the body as all are being treated. Hope this helps. Health Nurse
