I Got Tested For Hiv After 6 Months Of A Possible Exposure. It Was A Combo Test And Result Was Non Reactive. Then I Got Tested Again After 2 Months And The Result Again Was Non Reactive. And I Did Not Have Any Other High Risk Activity In Between. But I Do Get Some Symptoms Once In A While Such As Dry Mouth And Then A Painful Immobile Lump In Front Of My Left Ear Which May Be Pimple Underneath The Skin, I Do Not Know. It Also Feels Like Its A Lymph Node. My Girlfriend Got Rashes And Joint Pain And Severe Headache And Diarhea For Many Days After 6 Weeks Of Us Having Sex( We Had Sex After I Got To Know I Am Hiv Negative After 6 And 8 Months Of Possible Exposure By Unprotected Oral Sex.) Please Tell Me Should I Worry About Hiv. Please Reply.

Hi

Thanks for your kind words.

There is nothing for you to worry about in regard to HIV for a number of reasons.

You have done a HIV test at 6 and 8 months after exposure and both times the result has been non-reactive. This testing time is well after the HIV window period.

There are no symptoms that are caused by just having HIV. The symptoms you have described can be caused by many common conditions. The only way to find out if someone has HIV is by doing a HIV test after the window period.

We also find that HIV does not pass well with oral sex and we have not heard of HIV passing when someone is receiving oral sex. Other STI can pass easily with oral sex like chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis so I would see if they did a test for these if you are concerned.

Sometime we find that even though someone’s HIV test is negative and they are told there is nothing to worry about that they will still be worried. If you find this is happening to you have a look at our worry page for some helpful tips.
