All typical symptoms but testing as follows. 10 day PCR RNA negative, 30 day duo CMIA negative, 65 day duo negative, 82 day duo CMIA negative and 84 day PCR RNA negative again. Can I be now 100% sure that I didn’t catch HIV from this exposure and my symptoms may be something else? Or I need more testing ?

Hi

It’s always best to ask the health care professional who is ordering the HIV test as they would know your personal medical and sexual history and could advice you if any further testing is required.

As some general information having a Negative HIV antigen/antibody (DUO) test at 82 days and a negative HIV NAAT (PCR RNA) test at 84days. Would indicate that HIV was not passed to you. If someone was having a HIV seroconversion illness after HIV was passed to them, the HIV in the blood would be at a high level and the HIV NAAT would detect this.

With the test you have done it looks like HIV is not causing your symptoms and there would be no need to do any more HIV tests, but discussing your symptoms with the health professional you have been seeing would be good, so that you can figure out what is causing these symptoms if they are bothering you.

Let us know if you have any more questions or concerns.
