Home / Answered Questions / Hi, I had an encounter with an escort. I had a condom on during intercourse, but there was kissing with saliva exchange. Two days later, I started to feel itchy all over my body and on day 3, I have body aches; my muscle and joints hurts like I have a cold. I went to see a doc. and he gave me medications for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia. Although I don't have any discharge but he thought he gives the medications to me and test me fo Gonorrhea and Chlamydia afterwards. I have taken the meds but they have not improved my symptoms. I also requested a test for HSV 1 and 2. Given that I have these symptoms about 2 or 3 days after exposure, is it possible I have HSV ?

Hi there

It is not possible to make an accurate diagnosis online, but overall body itchiness is not a symptom that is usually associated with HSV, gonorrhea or Chlamydia.

Body aches can be a symptom of a viral infection such as HSV, but they are also symptoms of many other viral infections including colds. It is possible your body aches symptoms are due to a cold or other virus (that is not an STI) that you may have got from kissing.

Symptoms of HSV can take between 2 – 20 days to show up, with the average time being 6 days.

It takes a while for HSV to show up on a blood test. It is accurate 4 months after contact, so it might be early to test for this contact that you are worried about.
HSV 1 is very common. Up  to 80% of people have HSV, and many people don’t know they have it. If you do get the blood test for HSV 1 or 2 now, and it is positive, there is a good chance that you have been exposed to the virus some time earlier in your life.

To check out window periods and testing times for all STIs, you can look at our STI’s at a Glance chart.

I hope this answers your questions. If not, please ask another question.
