Home / Answered Questions / Hi, I had an unprotected vaginal exposure with a sex worker 18 months ago. i tested for ( hiv,12 ) Hepatitis B,C and Syphilis on (1,3,6,9) months , all came out negative however on 4th month i married to my girl friend. We have a baby now. however my symptoms are never stopped, i have continuous diarrhea for 20 months now. stomach pain, sore throat, red rashes, night sweats, all of sudden on/off fever which lasts for almost 2 to 3 weeks. i lost alot of weight and body mass ( i was 165 LBS and now 132 ) right cheek inflammation, all of sudden hand fingers and foot fingers get on fire many times in a day and goes away in seconds and sometimes testicular pain and now for 6 months sinus problem. my wife symptoms are also on/off diarrhea , on/off fever but last for 3 to 4 days, sore throat, lump nodes under arms and vaginal areas and cyst on her breast and lost alot of body mass and weight and my baby symptoms are on/off sudden fever which last 2 days, diarrhea and on/off rashes, day and night sweats sore throat and losing weight. So on the 16 months of my exposure i decided to retake all those possible test available in my country which includes ( 4th generation combi HIV 1,2 Hepatitis B,C , Syphilis, Urine DR, endoscopy, ultrasound, total protein, iron , CBC and ESR, LFT, TSH, Stool ova, stool culture, stool akal blood, stool parasitic, Ferritin B12, Lipase, Amylase, Glucose fasting, Stripe sugar, Lipid profile for cholesterol , Chlamydia urine test, Vidal, Malaria, VDRL and RPR .. all the test result came out fine, no problem is found. I took all my reports and showed it to the doctor. he says .. you are fine even though he is aware of all my symptoms. he has been giving me different type of antibiotics and that doesn’t seem to be helping me. Me and my wife are losing body mass continuously. i spent these 18 months in hell fighting with these symptoms back and forth but none of the problem is diagnosed yet. i couldn’t afford HIV testing via PCR or Western blood clot because it is much 10 times expensive than the regular Combi 4 generation test. Can anyone help me and tell me if i need to retest for HIV1,2 via PCR or Western Blood clot? Does my wife need to take test for Hepatitis and HIV testing too? Are these lumps , rashes , high fever, diarrhea and stomach problem related to HIV. I am much concerned about losing body mass because three of us are losing at the same time. Is there any case found to be positive after 6 months? Thanks for all your help and time. i would appreciate any help.

Hi

Sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. I know it can be very frustrating when you have those symptoms and you don’t know what is causing it.

The big thing with HIV is that there are no symptoms that are caused by just having HIV, the symptoms that someone can get with HIV can also be caused by many different conditions. The only way to find out if someone has HIV is to do a HIV test after the window period. In BC Canada the HIV test we use has a window period of 3 months.

The only thing I am wondering about is why you think it is caused by HIV? We see people at the clinic who are convinced that their symptoms are caused by HIV even though their test result is negative. They have a strong belief that it must be caused by HIV or another sexually transmitted infection.

I would just recommend that you go back to see your health care provider and discuss your symptoms with them, they would be able to see what tests you have done and what symptoms you have. I don’t know what country you are in but maybe it is possible to see another health care provider and get a second opinion.
