Home / Answered Questions / I am a 60 yr old male. I do see my sexual partner overseas few time a year since May 2016. In 2017 it was February, July and November. in November after my visit within a day or two I developed blisters around my genitals. My family Dr did diagnose me with HSV2. it took several weeks to go away. I did have a recent recurrence but in mild version and treated with antiviral meds. I am planing to visit my partner in few days and wanted to point this to her. is it possible that she had different partner between July and Nov 2017 and got infected or she had infection before and for some reason didn’t infect me, I do like the person and not planing to fight about it but need to clear out things for myself, I didn’t have any sexual partners in between. I’ll appreciate the answer. Sincerely Vladimir

Hi, thanks for your questions. It would be unusual to have had no contact with herpes after 60 years. You could simply be a person that does not get outbreaks. Its possible to have carried herpes, never get outbreaks or only get symptoms when certain conditions happen that we know bring out the herpes.g.  friction from sex, being in sun, very stressed with loss of relationship, someone you love dying or your immune system stressed with being sick with another illness. This way it is not possible to be sure that your herpes outbreak was from the contact with your partner in November and it is not possible to be sure whether you or she had herpes before. Your decision to discuss what has been happening with your partner may help clear up some of these doubts. If she has had contact with you in November, blood testing for her now over 6 months later will reflect whether she was exposed to the HSV 2 that you have. This could be a way for you both to know if you have herpes type 2 and if so, there is no risk of transferring it between you as you both have it.
