Home / Answered Questions / I just had protected vaginal sex with a woman of unknown status. There was no unprotected activity. After sex I removed the condom and cleaned my penis with the same hand. I washed it immediately after sex. The condom was used properly and did not slip or break. I am worried because when I removed the condom I washed my genitals with the same hand. Is there anything to worry about. Do I need to test for this incident.

Hi

It sounds like you are concerned that some vaginal fluid on your hand was passed to your penis. Let me know if I got that wrong.

If a man had vaginal fluid on his finger, the woman had a sexually transmitted infection (STI) and the man touched his urethra (pee tube), it is possible that gonorrhea or chlamydia could be passed this way. But this would not be a common way to pass these STIs.

It’s great that you used a condom for vaginal sex because that will really reduce your risk.

It is always a good idea to get tested if you or your partners are having sex with more than one partner.

Your family doctor can order STI tests or you can find a clinics using our clinic finder.
