Home / Answered Questions / I was on a business trip and I had protected sex with sex workers in Eastern Africa. My exposures were on 7.27.13, 8.10.13 and 8.22.13. As soon as I got back in the U.S. I test on 8.29.13 DNA by PCR and antibody 1/2=Negative, 32 days post exposure DNA by PCR and antibody 1/2+ Negative, 39 days post exposure 8 panel STD and antibody hiv 1/2=Negative, 7 weeks post exposure rapid hiv test with blood from a finger prick at planned parenthood=Negative, 8 weeks post exposure antibody hiv 1/2 at Labcorp blood test = negative. Do I need to restest at 90 days? All the tests that I’ve done so were based on from the last exposure (8.22.13).

HI there

In BC, we consider HIV tests to be 95% accurate at 6 weeks after contact and accurate at 90 days after contact.

However, I can’t speak for the accuracy or window periods for the tests you had done outside of BC.

I suggest you talk to your healthcare provide to find out about window periods for tests you had done and, from there, figure out if you need further testing.

I hope that helps.
