What are the chances of contracting stds from protected vaginal and oral sex and unprotected fingering?

Proper condom use will reduce the chance of passing most STIs but there is still some risk. STIs that are passed through skin to skin contact like Herpes, HPV and Syphilis can still pass even when a condom is used because condoms cover a limited amount of the genitals. If these STIs are present on the skin that is not covered by the condom they can be passed.

Remember that condoms must be used properly to reduce the chance of passing any STIs. Check out our Condoms page to get more information on their proper use. You can also check out our Know your chances page for more information about your chances of passing an STI through different activities.
