Home / Answered Questions / What are the risks of performing oral sex on a woman when there is a small cut in your mouth? canker soar or bit lip. What are the STIs that can be contracted in this scenario and there chances great or small associated with each possibility. As well i got an HIV and all other blood related STI tests 6 Days after a possible encounter, giving i assume a base line for the previous months. when is the soonest i can get an accurate test that would relate to the recent encounter? ( Rapid Test Point of care ) Id prefer not to wait 6 weeks or even worse 3 months to have complete peace of mind. I am trying to educate myself after hooking up with a woman i know little about, and am now finding myself very paranoid. For instance i have a small pain in my lower back and feel fatigued and have a minor headache now 8 days post encounter. With the various “windows” for all the various STI’s I feel like ill be stressed for a very long time. Do you have any recomendations to calm myself down in the mean time while i wait for the windows to arrive. Is there anything i can do in the meantime to treat or prevent any possible STIs from developing. Can any of them be treated before their “window”? It seems like a long journey to be 100% cleared. ( 3 months ? ) and if there is any medication i can take now that regardless if I’m infected and not be damaging to my body if i do not have a certain STI, in a preventative manner. * I have had all of the possible tests 6 days after possible exposure. As well the partner in question has told me she had a complete test done 5 months ago including HIV, and in that time she has only been with one other person, though that persons history is unknown. Im still very concerned. I realize with the information i have gathered my risks for a serious STI seem to be low. ( receiving unprotected oral sex, giving unprotected oral sex with a bit lip and having PROTECTED sex, though having my penis was touched with “vaginal fluid covered hands” Thanks, although very stressful this is a great resource for information and iv learned casual hook ups are not for me ! P.S maybe it would be a nice addition to have a timeline page on the site. That outlines the best course of action and time frame to be 100% clear.

Hi

Gonorrhea, Chlamydia and HIV are not commonly passed when giving oral sex to a woman, even with a cut. But open areas can increase the risk of HIV. Herpes, HPV (warts) and syphilis are easily passed when giving or receiving oral sex because they are passed by skin to skin contact.

You might want to check out our charts called Know Your Chances. They give lots of information about different ways of having sex and STIs.

It is a good idea to routine screening if you are having sex with new partners or more than one partner. Our “STIs at a Glance” Chart has info about when it to get tested.
