What tests are done as part of standard STD testing at BC STD clinics

Hi there,

Thanks for your question.

Standard STI (sexually transmitted infection) testing in BC includes collecting samples to test for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV. The visit may also include a discussion about hepatitis, including immunization status and hepatitis C risk.

Testing for chlamydia and gonorrhea is done with a urine sample, and/or a swab of your genitals, throat or anus. Testing for HIV, syphilis and hepatitis is done with a blood sample.

The health care provider will ask you questions about your sexual health history in order to determine which tests or exams you may need for a complete STI assessment and screening.

Please see the following link for more details in regards to testing and what to expect:

I hope this was helpful.
