Worried about HIV. I am a black male. Had a blowjob from a lady almost 6 weeks ago and not sure of her hiv status. The oral sex lasted for a long time. I didn't notice any sores on her lips/inner lip because I looked. However I am so scared of hiv. Between week 1 and 2, I had a canker sore in my inner cheek that lasted a week. In week 3, I noticed another canker sore on my gum but wasn't painful and disappeared in 2-3 days. No more symptoms until week 4 when I started searching body for rashes. I noticed a pimple like thing on my back. So I checked my back but didn't see much. However, mere looking at my back, there is nothing showing but when I pull my skin to the sides, I notice lots of black spots. They don't feel raised or look fresh, look more like acne and concentrated around the middle of the back. I know over the years I always prick stuff on my back but I have never gone to the extent of pulling skin to the side for firmness to see. This got me so worried. I have been overly anxious. Having problem sleeping, lost weight too. In week 5.5 I noticed an inflamed gym behind one tooth. Tender and painful to touch, chewing with that tooth was painful. The next day, I pressed it and some white pus and blood came out. I developed a fever this day (more like unnecessarily warm body cos the hospital said my temperature was 36C). My doctor examined it and said it was gingivitis and prescribed antibiotics. On the second day of antibiotics, a a lymph node under the neck that developed when the inflammation started stopped been painful. However I had this hot body feeling for 8 days now causing sleepless nights and chills at times in the night. It's different from a normal fever. I am so worried. Can inflamed gum be an acute hiv symptom? I have no sore throat or muscle/joint pains which are ordinarily common things I have when I have a flu. Can an hiv rash be like what I discussed and be like that for over two weeks? Is warm body/low grade fever constant with inflamed gum? Lastly I had diahreha when I started my antibiotics. Not sure if it's caused by the antibiotics or not. However the diarrhea has stopped. Your expert knowledge will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, thanks for writing in with your concerns. The symptoms you describe are not usual symptoms of HIV. It is quite common for some antibiotics to cause diarrhea. It sounds like you have been worrying a lot about the oral sex you had received 6 weeks ago. Oral sex is considered a very low risk for HIV transmission but a high risk for syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea. I would suggest that you consider testing for these STI’s now and then again at 3 months . If any of these STI’s are detected, they can be easily treated with antibiotics. You can also do the HIV testing at the 3 months mark to be sure and reassure yourself you did not get HIV from this encounter. If you are going to be seeing this person again, then both of you being tested for STI’s and HIV can be reassuring for each other. Health Nurse
