I have received a oral sex from a sex worker and already tested for HIV at 3 months and 20 days with a rapid test that is negative. Now after 4 and half month i am having a symptom of throat sore, cold and cough. Is this the symptom of hiv.

Hi

You’re symptoms would not be related to HIV from what happened 4 and half months ago, as we don’t see HIV being passed when receiving oral sex. Have a look at our “know your chances” web page for more information.

Also the window period for the HIV rapid test is 3 months. Given you tested negative to a rapid test at 3 months and 20 days you have nothing to worry about no matter what you did.

There are a few STI that can be passed when receiving oral sex like gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis etc…  Did you get other STI testing when you went for your HIV test?

Symptoms of sore throat, cold and cough can be general symptoms for a number of different conditions, if you are still concerned about these I would recommend visiting your health care provider.
