LGBTQ+ conference in Squamish this Saturday (May 9)

Safe ‘n Sound Squamish is hosting “Someone Like Me”, an education conference this Saturday (May 9, 2015).  Someone Like Me aims to connect lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer + individuals, their allies and community members with each other and with community resources.

The conference will feature a keynote address from Canadian comedian and TV show host, Elvira Kurt, and a series of workshops on queer competency training, human sexuality training and facilitated discussions with parents, family members and youth.

Over lunch, participants will have the opportunity to connect with local organizations at the “Community Resource Alley.” Representatives from groups like the Howe Sound Secondary Diversity Club and the Squamish Public Library will be available to answer questions and share valuable resources.

The conference will also include a “call-to-action” session during which attendees will be able to envision how they can carry their learning forward into their families, workplaces, and the larger community.

When: Saturday, May 9, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Where: Howe Sound Secondary School, Squamish, BC
Who: LGBTQ+ individuals, their families, friends, allies, First Nation members, employers, social services providers, teachers, medical professionals, pastors, public officials, community leaders, business owners, therapists, and more.
